Just after the first of the year, a family-owned bakery will be opening in Ashland City’s Owen Place Shopping Center.
Owned and operated by Pleasant View residents, Gary and Debbie Biersdorfer, Sassey’s Sweet Shop will cater to customers with a sweet tooth and an appetite for authentic, flavorful, and from-scratch baked goods.
Aiming to stay true to Debbie’s French roots and Gary’s German heritage, customers will soon find baking racks full traditional treats like: kolaches, candies, cookies, mini pies, filled cupcakes, cheese cakes, cinnamon rolls, and a variety of breads and pastries.
“Some things you will have heard of, and some will be new to you,” says Debbie, dedicated to bringing a unique experience to Cheatham County that will offer a tase of old world mixed with deep southern flare.
“There will be something for everyone,” she assures.
Planning to always live up to their motto, “treat everyone like family,” the Biersdorfers are designing their 1,000-foot location, next to Vuocolo’s Italian Restaurant, to both look and feel like an old fashioned kitchen.
“We want people to feel like they are coming home to their mom's or grandmother's kitchen,” Debbie says. “You will be able to find the smells and tastes of the past.”
Debbie’s passion for baking goes beyond her 14 years of experience in the kitchen. The memories of following her grandmother around as a child, admiring her ability to make anything and everything from scratch, are what fuels her to this day. There isn’t a batch that comes out of her oven that doesn’t have a pinch of that passion and a dash of love baked inside of it.
Judging by the positive response of the community, even in the very early stages, Debbie believes strongly that they chose the right time and right location to build their dream.
“With God's help, we will truly try to be an asset to Cheatham County today, tomorrow, and for years to come,” says Debbie.
Coming to the area from Austin, Texas, where they owned their first bakery, the Biersdorfers made Pleasant View their home in 2007. The couple, married for the past 18 years, has seven children and 17 grandchildren, spread out from Pegram to Texas.
Beginning on January 2, the creativity will be flowing, the ovens will be hot, and the universally-loved aroma of fresh bread will fill the air.
“We are looking forward to everyone coming out, looking around, and saying hello,” Debbie says.
Sassey’s Sweet Shop is located at 189 Monroe Place, Suite 106, in Ashland City. Their hours will be: Monday through Friday, 10AM- 6PM and Saturday, 10 AM - 3PM.
