On May 14 at 6:30 PM, the Sycamore War Eagles will be hosting East Nashville to kick-off the Class AA Regional Baseball Tournament.
To further mark the pivotal game for the successful 2018 team led by Daniel Smiley, Towne has announced that they will be singing the National Anthem.
The talented pair, made up of Jon Decious and Steevie Steeves, are opening up for county superstar Josh Turner tonight in Chicago, and then traveling back to Pleasant View for Sycamore’s big game on Monday evening.
Decious was born in Kentucky but moved to Pleasant View in eighth grade where he was a member of Sycamore High School’s first graduating class; he was on the War Eagle’s baseball team with Smiley in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
“I have done my best to keep up with the team ever since Smiley got the head coaching position so, as an old friend of his and an alum of the program, it means a lot to me to sing the anthem to kick off the regional tournament. I know Steevie’s really excited too,” says Decious.
When he was just 18, Decious’ rock band, the Pink Spiders, hit it big and he spent the better part of a decade making music and touring around the world. He eventually decided to leave the rocker life behind and head another direction; Decious proudly returned to his roots of country music, Pleasant View, and the ever-popular Nashville music scene.
Decious and Steeves met for the first time in 2010 at a renowned songwriting retreat, Horse & Writer.
Steeves, born and raised in Pennsylvania, came to Nashville in 2007 with big dreams, sultry vocals, and her beloved guitar.
The two have since successfully embraced the uniqueness of their individual backgrounds, and, with Steeves’ modernness mixed in with Decious’ old soul, they have been able to cultivate a broad fan base.
Towne’s latest EP will be released on the 18th of this month.
“Having Jon and Stevie come out and sing is going to be special—special because they are great musicians in a town full of great musicians, and special because Jon played under these same lights, in a similar uniform, and played in this game before. He was a great teammate of mine and an even better friend,” says Smiley.
Smiley hopes to see the stands packed with fans and members of the community on Monday night to show support for their hometown baseball team that currently holds an 18-9 record and a fantastic shot at the regional title.
