The Cheatham County Cubs added two more games in the win column on Dec. 3, defeating the Red Devils of Jo Byrns.
The ladies opened their game running over the visiting team with a blistering pace and took a 22-15 lead to the lockers at halftime. But, the Lady Red Devils maintained their poise and slowly battled back with only a three-point deficit at the end of the third.
The hometown ladies then put their foot down and kicked it into high gear, sending the Red Devils home defeated 45-36.
Carlie Hogan led the lady Cubs scoring with 11.
When the men took the floor it was a little closer.
The home team kept the game hot with accurate shooting and clearing the boards. The noise from the crowd was consistent, with the team netting three-point shots consistently. At half time, the Cubs took a 12 point lead to the locker room.
When the 3rd quarter began, it was clear the visiting Red Devils were not about to give up. They kept the pace fast and furious, working the boards and with improved accuracy, finishing the quarter only down by eight.
As the final quarter wound down, the visitors continued to battle hard, and with just over three minutes remaining, took the lead by one. From that point, it was a back-and forth battle.
As the final moments crept by, the Cubs brought the ball down with seven seconds remaining in a tied game. Tristan Lee launched a long three-point shot with one second remaining and the building was deadly silent.
But, when the final buzzer sounded, the ball swished the net simultaneously; the gym erupted as players, coaches, and fans swarmed the floor celebrating a 68-65 victory.
High scorer for the men was Silas Hunter with 24.
