The Sycamore War Eagles returned from winter break ready for some serious basketball and on January 7, they began with the White House Blue Devils. The ladies took the floor with victory on their minds and immediately set a blistering pace and pummeled their opponents.
The lady Blue Devils put up a valiant fight, but went home defeated 71-46. Callie Gudino was the high scorer for the War Eagles, netting 31 points.
When the guys hit the wood, the Blue Devils were bent on revenge and ran up a fast 10-point lead in the opening quarter. They kept up the pace and took a comfortable lead into the locker room at half time- but the home boys were not ready to call it a night.
The War Eagles came out in the third quarter and began plotting their comeback. They worked the backboards and the nets, and halfway through the final quarter, took the lead. It was nip-and-tuck from that point on, with both teams battling for the victory. With just seconds remaining and down one point, the Blue Devils worked the clock to the final seconds and took their final shot hoping for a win. The ball, however, bounced off the rim and into the hands of the home team, giving the War Eagles a 48-47 victory.
Bailey Chapman and Daniel Saylor were the top scorers for the War Eagles.
