On Tuesday, Jan 21, the War Eagles of Sycamore greeted the Indians of Harpeth for some fast-action basketball before a packed stadium.
The ladies opened up the show, and the War Eagles quickly ran up an 8-point lead before the visitors could even catch their breath. But, it was short lived, as the lady Indians battled back and with 4 minutes remaining in the first half, took their own lead and closed the half with a 24-21 advantage. The home team, however, was not going down without a fight and a battle ensued. The two teams traded leads a few more times before the lady War Eagles settled in and held the lady Indians, finally notching a 55-40 victory.
High scorer for the lady War Eagles was Olivia Stuard with 22.
Prior to the men's game Sycamore coach Steve Dodd was recognized and presented a plaque for achieving 600 career wins.
When the men took the floor it looked like a repeat of the action with different players. The guys from Sycamore set a blistering pace and with accurate shooting and controlling the boards, had a 4-point lead at the end of the first half: 20-16. But the visiting Indians went on a war path and battled back, taking the lead with just over 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd period.
From there it was another roller coaster game with the War Eagles edging the visitors 47-39 at the final buzzer.
High scorer for the War Eagles was Derek Underwood.
