On Friday, September 4, Sergeant Jeremy Ethridge of the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office was released from duty. The termination was a result of a violation of the department's policies regarding off-duty conduct.
Inappropriate behavior was allegedly committed by Sgt. Ethridge in the early morning hours of August 30, and was reported to Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove the following Monday morning.
According to Breedlove, he immediately contacted the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office with a request for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to investigate.
Breedlove said, “This was not an on-duty incident but after hours; however, I requested a TBI investigation to make sure the facts are found and the public’s confidence in their sheriff’s office stays intact.”
“This is unfortunate and hits hard when one of our own fails to uphold their sworn duty," Breedlove added. "Any violation by a law enforcement member will be investigated. Even though officers are being attacked nationwide, we have a high standard for how they act on and off duty."
Ethridge was a seven-year veteran of the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
