The Sycamore Middle School soccer team has been as hot as this year's August heat wave. Boasting a strong 5-0 record in the Tri-County Conference, the Lady Knights have shown tremendous effort, teamwork, and talent to start the 2023 season.
A total of 40 goals have been scored by the Knights in the first five regular-season games. Forward Casey Steel, eighth grader, has already scored eight, stamping her mark as a formidable goal scorer in the league.
In addition to displaying incredible offensive talent, the Lady Knights' defense has remained impenetrable, with zero goals conceded. A significant portion of the credit for this zero-concession record goes to the steadfast defense led by 8th-grade center-backs Clare Carmack and Kya Harvey; the ever-reliable goalkeeper, eighth-grader Abby Childress, stands strong as the last line of defense.
"Most of the players have been playing soccer for a long time,” Head Coach Kurt Thompson said. "This was a strong team last season, and they continue to improve and grow. I am looking forward to seeing the team sharpen even more in the second half of the season."
Echoing his sentiment, Assistant Coach Shannah Steel said, "I have been very impressed with the girls' hard work. Through summer conditioning, preseason, and now during the season, the girls continue to work hard and push themselves."
