On Tuesday evening, the Sycamore Lady War Eagles started the New Year off with one of their toughest matchups of the season, facing a strong Lady Tiger team from Central Magnet in Murfreesboro.

While the Lady War Eagles maintained a lead for a majority of the game, the Lady Tigers were able to pull ahead just enough in the fourth quarter to make the final seconds become a very close call for Sycamore.

With just eight seconds left on the clock and an inbound pass from junior Gaibri Allen in Tigers' territory, senior McKinleigh Young power dribbled all the way down the court into deep coverage. Young's successful shot put Sycamore up by one just as the buzzer sounded to secure the War Eagle's 46-45 victory.

Junior Izzy McPherson tallied up over half the team's points with 25. Young added six, and senior Kyra Shearon added five.

In their second game of 2023, Sycamore played host to the Rossview High Lady Hawks on Thursday. To start off the day, the junior varsity squad took a tough 35-24 loss. Freshman Violet Geldner put up six points, five rebounds, and one assist. Junior Savannah Jones also contributed six points, two rebounds, and one block; freshman Libby Reeder added four points and an assist.

The varsity girls, while coming within just three points with under five points left on the game clock, let the margin get the best of them, eventually falling 43-35.

In true McPherson fashion, the junior was at the top of the board with 20 points, six rebounds, one steal, and two blocks. Shearon contributed 10 points, a steal, and an assist; Young added five points, four rebounds, and two steals.

To close out the week, the Lady War Eagles traveled to West Creek to face the Lady Coyotes for the final time this season. While the first half started off fairly rocky for Sycamore, they seemed to gain a little momentum after the halftime break resulting in a 42-33 win for the Eagles.

McPherson racked up 22 points, crossing the 20-point marker for the third time of the week; she also contributed one rebound, one steal, and three blocks. Shearon put up eight, and sophomore Anna Knight added six with three rebounds.

This week, on Tuesday, Sycamore will travel to Cheatham to face the Lady Cubs for the first time this season. The junior varsity game begins at 3:30PM, and varsity at 6PM.
