Three young teenagers came across the unthinkable when they were out playing in a wooded area near Jere Court in Pleasant View on Sunday afternoon.

The 13-year old boys were no strangers to that particular location, as they frequently set out on adventures in the neighborhood and surrounding areas- always on the hunt for their next discovery.

"If there is something in the woods of Town Pride, these boys will find it," one of the boys' mothers told The Post.

This time, however, they stumbled across the unthinkable on the afternoon of March 6, 2022.

The Gruesome Discovery

When the boys caught sight of a pair of out-of-place work/hiking boots and a "prison release badge," the curious group decided to explore a little more thoroughly. It was then that they saw a "femur bone and a foot," the shocked mother tells us.

Not long after, the boys spotted a body in a nearby cave.

We are told they then went back to one of the boys' houses, and an older sister called the police for them.

"They were excited," the mother said about getting that initial call. "They thought they had done a good deed by notifying the police in hopes of helping to solve a case. I just did not believe him at first!"

She says that her son is "anxious" to see where the investigation leads, and hopes he played a role in putting an unsolved crime to rest.

A Second Group Stumbles Upon the Scene

The boys were not the only ones who realized something was amiss in the area, though.

At approximately the same time, a second group of area children were exploring around the cave they had identified a week or so earlier, another mother tells us. During this trip, though, they immediately spotted the boots and the badge.

"They found the cave last week, but because water was gushing out out of it at that time, they must have missed the boots and badge then," the mother says.

It is assumed that this discovery was made when the first group had left the scene to call the authorities.

After bringing the mysterious badge back home to show some adults, one teenager from the bunch set back out to explore a little deeper.

At some point, he stumbled upon the scene where police had already been dispatched. The badge was immediately turned over to authorities as evidence.

What the Authorities Say

At the request of 23rd District Attorney General Ray Crouch, TBI special agents are currently working with the Pleasant View Police Department in investigating the ghastly discovery.

While authorities have identified the deceased as being an adult male, they say an autopsy will help them determine certain identity.
