The PVCS Warriors Return to the Field

Submitted

After much anticipation, football is back at Pleasant View Christian School and gaining momentum with each Tuesday night game. The newly established junior varsity team consisting, of 18 players ranging from sixth to ninth grade, competes against other schools with 8-man football teams, and is led by Head Coach Chris Farmer and Assistant Coach Caleb Binford.

With a vision for long-term growth and development, the program launched with practices beginning in June of 2024. Though many students were picking up the game for the first time, they continued to work hard and progress throughout the summer leading up to the program’s first game on August 27.

Starting a brand new program of any type is a challenge, but the student-athletes and coaches continued to put in the work and were finally rewarded with their first win of the season in a 22-14 victory against South Haven Christian School, a competitive school rival, during their Homecoming game on Tuesday, October 1st.

“The win has been building over the last couple of games,” said Coach Farmer, who has been an integral part of the establishment of the football program at PVCS. “The players bought into the system and played as a team.”

After an eight-year absence, the football team took the field at the Ralph Spangler Stadium as its home field thanks to a partnership with Sycamore High and Cheatham County Schools. It is not the first time the Warriors have played under the lights, however. From 2006-2016, the Warriors had a competitive high school football program. Unfortunately, with a large graduating class and lower participation, the program was not able to return in the fall of 2017.

With the third-highest enrollment in PVCS history and an increasing interest in the sport, conversations about the return of football began to circulate over the past 12 to 18 months. During PVCS Vision Night in February, newly appointed Head of School Brandon Roysden announced the return of PVCS football to resounding applause. From that point forward the anticipation for the season began!

Looking ahead to the 2025 Season, Coach Farmer has high expectations with the majority of his players returning next year. “I’m excited about what we’ve been able to accomplish this year and look forward to taking the next step as we head into the second year of this program.”
